This medal marks the 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian revolution of 1917 – 1921, and the establishment of the first foreign policy institution – the General International Relations Secretariat. The General International Relations Secretariat was set up in December 1917 under the umbrella of the General Secretariat of the Ukrainian People’s Republic. It was responsible for maintaining the country’s international relations, and protecting the interests of Ukrainians abroad.

Obverse: above is Ukraine’s small coat of arms, to the right of which is the issue year – 2017; in the center, against a smooth background, is the modern building of Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry, the central executive body responsible for the country’s foreign policy, and the following legends: 100/РОКІВ/YEARS (under the building), МІНІСТЕРСТВО ЗАКОРДОННИХ СПРАВ УКРАЇНИ (semicircular above), MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF UKRAINE (semicircular below); to the right is the mint mark of the NBU Banknote Printing and Minting Works.
Reverse: to the right is the building on Tereschenkivska Street that housed the General International Relations Secretariat 100 years ago; above, to the left of the building, is a cartouche made from a floral ornament with a trident inside it; under the building is the legend: 100/РОКІВ/YEARS. There are also the following circular legends: УКРАЇНСЬКІЙ ДИПЛОМАТИЧНІЙ СЛУЖБІ (above), UKRAINIAN DIPLOMATIC SERVICE (below).
