The coin is dedicated to the 28th Summer Olympic Games held in Athens (Greece) in 2004
On the coin obverse in the square there is depicted an allegoric scene of the opening of the Olympic Games: two female figures dressed in tunics are holding a cup with flame and laurel branches, the symbol of peace. Above the square there is engraved the small National Emblem of Ukraine and inscriptions: on the German silver coin - УКРАЇНА (Ukraine) (above), 2 ГРИВНІ (2/ Hryvnia/ 2002) (beneath). There is also the logotype of Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.
On the coin reverse in the square there is represented a full-face swimmer. Around the square there are the following inscriptions: ІГРИ/ XXVIII ОЛІМПІАДИ (Olympic Games) (above), OLYMPIC GAMES/ XXVIII (beneath), АФІНИ 2004 (to the left), ATHENS 2004 (on the right).
