The coin is dedicated to the city of Sevastopol (from Greek - a city of glory), an important sea port and fortress which was founded in 1783 near Chersonesus, the former Greek settlement. It is the largest sea commercial port, fish port, as well as industrial, scientific, cultural and historical centre of the South of Ukraine.

On the coin obverse there is a depiction of crossed anchors and a ship-gu symbolizing the city as a naval port and fortress, beneath the gun there are conventionalized bunches of grapes; above there is the small National Emblem of Ukraine and the semicircular inscription: НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National bank of Ukraine, below - ДЕСЯТЬ ГРИВЕНЬ/ 2008 (Ten Hryvnia/2008), designation of the metal Ag 925 and 31,1, its weight in fineness; on both coins there is the NBU Mint logotype
